Hope someone can help. Have 110 with Salisbury diff R380 / 300tdi. Did rear drive flanges and half shafts and fixed the clunk. Discs and pads at same time and one wheel bearing was knackered so did both sides. also did slightly leaky diff pinion seal and new flange as had a big groove in it from old seal. All back together and clunk much less no leaks etc.. However i now have a rumble at low speed up to about 30-40 mph. The diff has always had a whine at above 60 on the over run but this is different. So i checked rear prop and its in reasonable condition. Have driven truck minus prop and rear half shafts and rumble is still there.
So i am confused because it can only be the wheel bearings and these seem ok when you spin the wheel without the half shafts, no please and they were the more expensive bearings from paddock.
I didn't not count the turns on the diff pinion nut removal and consequently tightened it up as much as possible with someone holding the brake, but as the rumble is still apparent whilst driving with half shafts and prop removed what the heck can if be ???
Concerned its the Salisbury axle as they are mega money but this isnt now rotating so maybe its something else. Please can anyone suggest anything further ??

Hmmmm - i didn't. I never did the back ones before only from but they are the same. I usually lock them up and turn back 1/4 turn and see how they feel. I will get the right proceed and do them properly, do you think this could cause the load rumble. hubs spin well and dont apprer to have any play.

This is the book method

so i have checked the wheel bearings again tightened them correctly and although they are free and no play both sides still are a bit noisy. should there be some whirring when i spin the hubs? The noise certainly isnt metallic or rattling like before.
Beginning to think there could be some issue with front prop which is making the rumbling noise or maybe the gearbox. At a bit of a loss really

Shouldn't be any whirring noise if they are correctly greased and tightened. Were they excessively overtightened in your opinion, you may have damaged the new bearings if they were really tight and you have been driving on them for a while, possibly the brake pads could be rubbing on the disk and causing a bit of noise (which shoudn't be anything to worry about).

how did you set the wheel brgs, unless you remove pads its hard to tell if brgs noisy

Yes removed the pads when i spent all those hours thinking the rumble was at the back!
then this afternoon i jacked up from OS and spun the wheel and guess what bearing was shagged popped cap off and full of water. I was convinced it was the rear but there you go.
New bearing fitted and much better now. Thanks for all the help
