Can any of you good people help me out? Just removed wheel arch cover to try and change fuel filter and found this wire disconnected. It looks like it may have corroded and just snapped! Should it actually be connected? Was going to attempt filter change as the car gets a bit judder once it gets up to temp. Any ideas how to connect it back on if it needs to be on? Also what issues would this cause being like it is?
I’m no mechanic by the way so all advice welcome. Thanks.
Freelander 1 TD4 facelift.

Sorry, me again. Thought I should also mention that my fuel consumption is pathetic. From full to light on about 300 miles

ref the fuel consumption, does it get to temp. Needle in the middle.
Cold running affects mpg quite a lot

It gets to temp just fine, done thermostat mod. I think the small connector is the earth that connects to the filter but don’t know what the bigger one is for.

The connections round there would be the fuel pump, pretty sure it isn't that one as I don't think the car would run with that disconnected, and possibly a level sensor for the diesel water separator. I don't recall the Freelander having one of those sensors, but I could be wrong.

The earth lead is just that, an earth lead for the filter. I believe this is more to do with radio reception than safety.

The junior timer plug (the 2 pin plug) is for the fuel burning heater dosing pump, which was only fitted if the cold weather option was fitted.

As above 9 x out 10 the earth lead is corroded and needs replacing, you can make one up, or i am sure you can purchase them, it just slides in between the fuel filter and the casing.

Again as nodge says the plug connector is for the FBH fuel pump if one is fitted.
