Is it running ok?

Thank you for the warm welcome!
It’s running great thank you, I’m going to tidy up the paint work and use it as my daily car, the only annoying thing is a switch needs to be flicked on before starting for the fuel pump I think ? It’s not the original engine and it appears this engine has no EGR?

The switch sounds like a primitive anti-theft device. Is it hidden? Could be an ignition cutout, but you'll know bettern us!
(Shouldn't have told us about this maybe!?)

When you say it will not start, is it you turn the key and the starter will not run, or it turns over but will not fire,
as i had an issue with my p38 2.5 the car would be all locked up no one in it and the engine would decide to try and start on its own, which is a fault in the main fuse box behind the battery
my quick fix next morning was to put a switch in the wire to the starter that had to be engaged when you turned the key as i was on holiday at the time.
fuse boxes giving problems is well documented.

Hello again

so when the switch is flipped to on there is a buzz noise ? But if the switch is off no noise and won’t start? Any ideas?

I also need some help I need to get some parts so the P38 can be tracked up at the moment the track rods are seized apparently, what do I need to replace both sides?

thank you in advance

Guessing your engine has a metal inlet manifold like in my picture next to my name. The pump doesn’t engage on cranking with early engines, may be an unorthodox hotstart type system. Does glow lamp come on when engine is hot/when switch is flicked?

If it works - live with it or take it out and cross your fingers :)

Thank you for taking the time to write back, I will take your advice and leave it be, it had a replacement engine two years ago so I guess that makes sense, and yes it looks just like the one you have.

There are a number of p38 2.5 (M51) enthusiasts here. There isn’t particularly anything that can’t be fixed on these when you know your way round them.
Pop in here and say hi to the guys n gals when you get a chance https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/what-did-you-do-with-your-range-rover-today.202974/page-893

Is like a day to day gossip thread. There are a number of V8 owners in there but dont be put off by any remarks, we all have a bit of banter but are good friends really :)
