Hi, iv just joined this site after using the old threads as a vital source for my landrover repairs and woes over the last year, iv not had too much trouble though! Iv owned the discovery 300tdi for a year and it's my first landrover, I can say I really like the one I've got, she is sound! The reason for my latest visit was black smoky deposits in my coolant after it let it over heat 
(sorry) After research I figured I needed to look at the head gasket with a view to replacing it and checking the cylinder head, which iv done, I took it to an engine specialist this morning. The heads obviously warped (by 40th apparently) and it's being skimmed. I'll put on a thicker gasket to compensate (I'm being advised by the garage.) while it's off Iv cleaned the inlet manifold of about a qtr inch of black horrible debris as well after reading about that. Think I'll change the water pump and filters tomorrow. Just want yo say thanks to all the contributors and administrators and members of this forum I wouldn't have had the confidence to tackle the job or had the Info I needed if it wasn't for all.
