Hi there everyone, I'm Gareth and have recently started to drive on the roads.

I off-road as often as I can in the old Series 3 landys. However it's occurred to me that I need to get a car pretty soon. I'm looking at a Land Rover 90 2.5D

No Turbo!

I love these machines! But would you say it's practical for a 17 year old to buy one as there first car?

I'm studying countryside management at my college, just to let you know and will be doing agriculture next year.

So I seek a Veterans advice on them. I have £4000 left to me by a relative for my car and running costs are low as I have sorted out the old bio-diesel.

Are they comfy to drive on the road? Off road ride comfort isn't really my No.1 Priority!

What is there floors on the road on long distance journeys ect... ?

Any answers would be appreciate

Get one! Ive had them since i was 17, after i crashedmy escort.

Lots o fun, easy to fix nd run.

On the road ride comfort is acceptable, if you remember what it is. It ain gonna compete with a car, but it aint meant to.

Will be smoother than the series though.

Long distance they are slow, noisy, inefficient, bouncy, drafty. You will however, depending on maintainence, almost always get there. with all you stuff in the back.

Handling isnt very good in the wet, and it is often surprising in the dry.

Give it a go! You can always sell it if you want.

Thanks! I've been really wanting one. What insurance folk are you with, if you wouldn't mind telling me :)

Get yerself a landy, I waited 20yrs for mine cause people kept putting me off.

NFU Mutual seems to be a good price and also Adrian Flux but they wanted to limit my mileage. NFU were not concerned about mine being a V8 and I have no mileage limits either. Was £160 for me and other half, although I'm not 17

deffinatly get one asap!! ive had one since i was 17 never regreted it!! as other guy said fuel costs are high, ride comfort is actually quite good considering, off road they are incredable(as long as u know what ur doing)
NFU you should go with thats who i am with and when i was 18 with 1 years no claims under my belt:cool: my insurance went down to under 900 quid which is the best u will get!
i qouldnt get a 2.5 n/a, either get a 2.5 TD(not much difference), 200tdi or a 300tdi! but up to you!!

I would never want to put someone off of buying a Landy but due to your age get an insurance quote first. No point buying one if you cant insure it! You get used to the ride and noise levels with Landy owner ship and after you have driven them nothing else will do. Laid mine up for a month a short while ago and was so happy to have it back on the road again. Landy ownership is a bit like masturbation... once you have tryed it and done it for a while you never want to stop doing it:D

I gotta 90 2.5D, best thing I have very brought. It does wot it says on the tin. Its slow, noisy, leaks like a basket, but always starts first go, and has never let me down, plus you can get alot of stuff in the back. Another thing, if you 'ding' it, it just adds to the charm lol
