Hello, I'm Cropzy.

I'm 21. I currently drive an 03 1.2 corsa c sxi, hopefully next year I will be looking to get a landy. I used to green lane on my 1985 xl125r (but that's in a museum now) and I loved every second of it, I am an active airsofter too so I visit quite rural areas often and love offroading.

My dream car is an ex MOD defender, now that may be a little out of reach for me at the moment. I am in the market for a defender or a disco. I'm not really fussed which as I will get what I can take and afford.

Do you guys have any tips on anything? Such as where to buy and what to look out for and what an ideal budget would be etc?

Apologies if this is in the wrong area of the forum, I couldn't find a general Q&A.

The next auction/ Tendering is on the 12th October. Viewings are available from the 7th October from 08:30 to 16:30. It's all on their site. There is an on going on-line auction under Auctions. What you want I think is the Tender list for the 12th October. I would take someone who knows about Defenders. You may have to arrange to have the vehicle trailed back until you can organise all the documentation etc with the DVL

Discos are cheaper than defenders but there should be no reason why ex mod ones should be more expensive than standard defenders unless you're looking at Wolf ones. What's your budget?

Witham's are overpriced. Watch your local commercial advertising n listings. There are always landys advertised. That's where you might get something cheaper. I'd go for a Defender if you enjoy maintaining them.

I would be happy with either. I don't really know my budget as of yet as it will be next year and I have other things to pay for before I can start saving, I would be looking at the back of next year. I have been doing research aswell and it seems like a reasonable starting point is around £1.5k? I'm not sure as I have never owned one.

I would like to do it up over time and modify it to go green laning and such as I do not plan on getting another car after a landy for a very long time.

At the min you'd be lucky to get a knackered defender for £1500 and unless you can weld you'd be putting another grand into it to get it road worthy as the prices seem to be going up and up. Have you considered a Series Land Rover as for some reason you can sometimes pick them up for a fairly reasonable price still and even some series 3's are tax free

Any disco or defender would do me, so then I could learn and build up from there to be honest.

£1500 would be starting, I would have more but that would be my starting point, i'd say around £3000 to be honest. But then again I cannot predict the future!
