hello :D also help needed

1st off hi guys i am new and need alittle help i bought a 1990 rrc 2.5 vm engine with no drive got it home and found out that the clutch was goosed so put a new one in and got drive but only in 3rd 4th and 5th you could get it in to 1st 2nd and R but in was very stiff and was grinding going in, so i got a new/used box put that in and now i can get 2nd 3th 4th 5th and 1st but only if i go into 2nd first and then into 1st and R still grindes. any ideas ?

i have changed:-

gearbox which i was promised was good ???
master and slave cyclenders
all fluids
and new clutch inc bearing

really cant think of what else it can be so any help will be greatfull

tryed it wouldnt let me post in there ! i dont no why everybody slates the vm engine if people dont rag them then there fine this one runs spot on and pulls like a train

should let you in, and the vm is a dog but if ya got a goodun, crack on son.

i hope i have got a good one if not there is plenty of 300/200 tdi's knocking about that i can swap over to lol
