Hi everyone, just joined the site despite being an oval badge owner for 20 years! I need to fit an LED amber light bar to the rear of my 2007 Disco 3 ( with a glass roof!) for work. It already has the standard HSE roof rails. I wondered if any member has had any experience of fitting one of these in terms of how to secure one to the roof rails without putting in cross rails. Any much much appreciated.

Thanks

James

Welcome aboard :)

Put some piccies up of your D3 if you can... - we likes piccies... and there are a few D3 owners of here now.... I'd imagine one of them will be along shortly :)

welcome to the asylum

have u thought of getting a light that has the suction cups on them and fitting it to the rear window, keeping all the wires inside

assume though the lights have to be visible 360 degrees , so may have to fit a cross bar

have seen them fitted in the rear bumper, lights, along with them fitted in the front grill so they can be seen all round

just ideas

Thanks - yes I did but then had to discount on two ground - privacy glass reducing the effectiveness and a border collie who sits in the boot and will happily each wires :) I am looking at the "covert" all round ones, whilst they are kind of effective they are not amazing - bearing in mind these are safety lights that will only be used when the vehicle is stationary or very slow moving so its not like police covert blues that are accompanied by a siren. Having clambered up top there are definite designed in securing points on the rails so there must be brackets / bolts available somewhere to attach things too them

see what u mean ref the rear window

know there are magnetic ones that should sit where ur gps aerial is

thinking also maybe a L shaped bracket, ones that are used to secure cb aerials etc onto the roof rails possibly be an option

know u said ref the rear cross bars, do u need to take them off or have it permanently fitted

just thinking if u had the back cross bar could fit a big decent one there so could be seen 360 degrees

but understand where ur coming from having them sort of hidden away

only thing i can think of is some smaller ones, fitted either side of the roof rails with small brackets

Yeah I think I will end up having to fit a cross bar - seems a shame that there are bolting points on the rails but no bolts available :) I need to get near one of the new AA disco's and have a look at how they have fitted it!
