Hello All
I have a Series 2 109 diesel when I got my hands on it (1993) it had seen little or no use for many years and body/chassis wise was in good condition the engine was another matter :) after the addition of a 2.5 di (TDi Landrover engines were rather expensive in those days) it was in daily use for 4 years (with the odd break to replace diffs and halfshafts), after which time it was semi retired, last October I started using it again (after a complete brake system overhaul and diesel pump service and a little welding on the rear cross member) daily driver again and looking forward to a week of snow J
Regards

Hi I have just bought a Freelander with a blown head gasket as a project. I have fitted the best of everything including genuine LR Antifreeze.
I drove the car home but after skimming the head she refuses to start. I have been experimenting and get a good spark direct from the coil but despite a new rotor arm and cap no combination of old and new produces a good spark after the distributor. My next investment is a set of leads unless anyone has any other experience or suggestions?
Most sites I find complain about the freelander but is there any site that relates experience on repairs. My pork chop failed and I could find little on how far I had to go to swap it out.
The later was easy once I released the four bolts on the Diff rear mounts with it supported on an axle stand.
I have changed a few heads, cambelts and the freelander is a breeze to work on so why so many complaints?

Update
Last spring I had to rebuild the gearbox as it had become noisey and leaked oil from almost everywhere (I had previously replaced the original with a late series 3 transmission and overdrive), I replaced 1-2 , and3-4 syncro hubs (luckily got hold of a NOS 3-4 item), a couple of bearings and bushes and corrected the end float on just about everything, I sealed it all up with sealant used on Subaru engines, no gaskets just sealant and no more leaks :)
The rear axle is about to go again (lost count of replacement diffs and half shafts, so changing to a salisbury axle from a defender hopefully will get this done within a couple of weeks. If anyone knows where I can get hold of spring plates and ubolts from a series 3 LWB rear axle I would like to know.
I have also got hold of a 2.5Di (Transit) turbo lump with 65.000 mile on it, this is going into the Landy as soon as the axle is fitted followed by a LT77 and LT230 when I get round to it, at which time I will turn the boost up :D
