My td5 is pumping black smoke on rapid accereration, is this normal?? The engine sounds great, no misfiring, no rattles, no noticeable leaks other than the daily drip (normal right?). I've put redex injector cleaner in the fuel, is this taking effect, or have I nothing to worry about, just carry on polluting???

Hi Hulks
Did you manage to sort your problem out as mine is doing similar, its had a recon engine put in and all was fine but has started smoking heavy on acceleration was told the turbo wasnt great and wasn't sure if that's was the cause or not.
Thanks

it's not normal to blow very much black smoke as long as everything is OK, it means it's overfueling for some reason, live data session with tester is needed for a proper diagnose otherwise it's a guessing game cos it can be due to the AAP sensor too and you can't check it other way...be aware that much black smoke can go together with too high EGTs and it can end up with serious engine damage

simple rudimentary actions:
1. unplug the MAF and see if it's the same or not, if it's better with it unplugged you need a new one
2. replace the crankcase breather(depression controll) valve if you know it's oldeer than let's say 30K miles
3. adjust injector clearances to be all as in the book
