If I didnt have the original fitted in the engine bay I would have tried to fit the diesel heater in there and ducted it through as a normal unit. You can now get a Chinese copy of an erberspacher for 150 quids and by all accounts are more reliable. There is one with a four pipe outlet that would be ideal. For £150 its a no brainer. You can even turn it on from the house so its all cozy when you get in it.

8KW in a Series. You could roast the Christmas Turkey while you are going along.

If you put a night heater in,it must be level to start.
Don't forget they have an exhaust so these can't be mounted inside the motor.
But they are nice & warm even a 2kw you will be warm in the landy.

The only issues are the siting of the fuel pump. Fuel must flow down hill to the pump and up hill from the pump. I tapped direct into the diesel feed from the tank. Other than that its a 25mm air feed to the unit and a 25mm exhaust. The switch is the only other consideration. Some are simple on and off right up to digital readouts and remote control. Cheapest is around 135 dearest about 175. If running for long periods when the engine isnt running might mean fitting a second battery but not needed for ten minutes before you start a journey.

Last thought................. If you go for one it might be worth getting the remote control one as although the fan is strong enough for heating a caravan its not a demist speed flow. You may need the 10 minutes before you open the heap to clear the windows.

Thanks Bobsticle, great advice, exactly what I was hoping for. I’ve looked them up on e bay, getting great reviews! Again, thanks very much.

If anyone questions the chineesey copy. The Eberspacher service kit for my annual clean up is £185. The unit new with fitting kit would be about £1600.:eek::eek:

The second it blows I will be phoning China :D

Yes, for sure. It’s a matter of economics. Even if it only lasts a few years it’s still cheaper. Reviews are good, at least the ones I’m reading at the moment.

surely only the water ones?

the electric range are ceramic, not sure if the series electrics are capable of providing the high current they need to run though.

the 300w one has the lowest requirement at 25a , the 420 needs 35a so would probably be ok

600w 52 amps which I am guessing is getting too juicy for the system

I always fancied doing that doubling up of the matrix in the s3 but never get round to doing it. bought a second heater matrix in a box (used) never got round to putting the two together though.

the heater in my s3 is warm as toast though since I cleaned out the water flow valve and left it full open

I am looking at converting a night heater & 90 heater box using the fan to blow it to the required areas.
Take out the matrix to allow the heat through.
Time to surf the net....

Night heaters are run by a cpu and rely on input from the various sensors inside the unit. Pulling air through with an external fan unit would cock its readings up. If its not happy the failsafe mode shuts it down. The internal fan is reasonably strong to fill the vehicle with toasty air but would take a few minutes to dry a windscreen from cold. If speed is important I would consider warming the cab air and using this air to recirculate to the screen under pressure.
