Thats great that you fixed it but surley just for piece of mind it would of been worth the quid or so at any motor factors for a new relay... once repaired its only time befor it burns or fails.:D

the reason it breaks is not heat . the small resistant is only pressed into place and the vibrations in the relay and the temp makes it go loose :)

Yes but if you use the relay (put power threw or "use" it) then take the plastic case away from the relay you will be able to feel the heat going threw it,, anything that has an electrical charge passing threw generates heat... im just saying for the sake of a couple of quid if that surley its worth it at least it wont fail; again for a number of years.:D

i agree with you :)
but still there may be some were 10£( I don´t know the price on 2 new relays ) is worth saving ....

I used to repair Volvo relays commercially, failure was almost always fractured solder joints, easy to fix and a s good as new after. That's what i call recycling!

Yes just done the overdrive relay on a Volvo 940, common problem cracked solder joints. £35.00 saved.

Fuel pump relay for the 7/9 series was as I remember £80 new from Volvo, full of electronics. The mechanical relay bit was just held in place by the solder joints which were not strong enough to support it, hence the joints failed. My volvo Garage mate was happy to pay me £25 for each one I repaired, he charged the customer £50 inc fitting, everyone was happy. I gave a 12 months guarantee same as Volvo. Could do with some more work like that:)

You and me both mate.:):):)

I agree with repairing that if the cost is £35, but we are talkin about a relay thats standard... and cost peanuts.:D

Ok picture the scene. It's Sunday afternoon you need a 25amp 4pin relay the solder joint has failed. Just a bog standard one nothing fancy. Who's open? Halfrauds. Off you trot, when you get there you find a selection of relays. They have 4 pin 30 amp at £5.59. 5 pin 30 amp at £7.99. 5 pin 15 amp at £10.99. 4 pin 25amp at £ 6.29. You know that all these are available at £2.99 from the factors. Wonder why the most popular sizes are dearer here? What to do? Personally i would have spent ten minutes and 10p in electricity and solder, rather than going to Halfrauds, using fuel and having my finger nails ripped out at the till. What would you do?:):):)

It boils down to one word - convenience! Why do peeps bemoan the loss of the corner shop, but do all their shopping at Tescos?
Sure Halfrauds ain't the cheapest, but an hour with the soldering iron compared to an extra 3 quid. Wots your labour rate? If it's 3pm on a Sunday? That's where they make their money. If yu can wait ( and don't mind a fiver carriage charge) then VWP are always gonna be better, but yu can't get a top up of antifreeze at the same time.

It's horses for courses - I ain't saying they are best - far from it . But there is a place for them in the same way there is a place fir PC world :puke:.

Yeah i suppose their puncture outfits are reasonable. Personally i build my own computers from bits bought at computer fairs. That way i can have a computer for £300.00 that would cost £1,000.00 at PC world. Each to their own. How's the Disco doing? :):)

Which one? :)
The new one? Seems to be going fine. Looses water thru the P gasket (I think) and one of the core plugs. I have fit a set of camac terras for the snowy weather and a new battery clamp:). A few jobs to do for spring. Not bad for the money tho :D.

Fine print?
Wot fine print?
I dint get a receipt :p

I dint even get to see the seller - it was all done thru 3rd parties and meetings in car parks
Mind yu - have yu seen that guys dogs?? ;) - I dint feel like arguing :D

Three minutes for the soldering iron to heat up, one minute to remove the relay case, thirty seconds to solder the joints another ten seconds to put the cover back on.:D
