Heater - recurculation?

Like almost all other defenders my heater is crap. I was thinking about the fact it may be more effective to re-route the air intake to it to the cab rather than outside. Then atleast it is recurculating warmer air (almost just warmer) than constantly pulling cold air from outside.

Has anyone tried this or have any thoughts whether it is worth trying?

Cheers

Andy

Its a good idear , buy do you want to cut holes in your bulkhead tho ? . if you do it let us all know and tell us the results :D

If you recirculate the air in the cab, you may find the demister ineffective as the moisture has nowhere to go.
I tried adding a mini snorkel on the heater inlet on the wing top to shove more air through. It worked but the air was cooler. The limiting factor appears to be the capacity of the heater matrix.

Rather than re recirculate air inside the cab, why not move the heater intake to slightly behind the engine where once up to temp the air heading into the intake will be warmish??

yer that'd smell lovely, just hope you don't have a leaky manifold

Too true, i mean its not ideal but providing your manifolds not leaking but im sure the air would be quite abit warmer and you wouldnt need to drill any nasty holes in the bulkhead.

To be fair ive had it up this afternoon adjusting heater controls. Sure the engine's not an ideal place to reroute the heater intake (i never said it was), and it smells a bit funky.

But if you want to try and solve a problem thats not ideal in the first place withought trying a new matrix, its much easier than butchering your bulkhead. Even if it turned out to be crap and a bit too whiffy, it wouldnt be the end of the world. But if you went to the trouble of cutting through your bulkhead only to find out the idea wasnt great, it'd be rather anoying. ;)
