Need some advice, for the second time in 18 months my O rings are leaking .

First time round I had to replace the Martix, feed pipes and O rings because I had to dril the screw out and damged the matrix and pipies. The replacment pipes and Matrix were genuine from the local stealers. I did have to fit a nut to the back of the clamp as the dealer who had fixed it before me screwe up the thread in the metal plate.

Anyway last week noticed the dreaded drip, at the weeknd i got it all apart and after replacing the O rings, I just can't get it to seal.

The clamp appears to be sitting nice and tight on the top pipe but there is a small gap on the bottom one. What ever I try I just can't get it to sit right and seal.

Any tips or tricks any one can suggest, really want to get the car back on the road.

Thanks,
Jamie.

hi there,i was told exactly today by an electrician (lr),that the matrix of the p38 along with the pipes can be substituted with a BMW matrix along with rubber hose from the bulk, instead of the damned metal pipes.if it is true than maybe it can b an escape route from those dreaded matrixs and their o rings.shortly enough someone will jump in with opinions.didn't know which bmw though.but i am very interested in this substitution and i think i will go for it next month.

A member from rangerovers.net has done a conversion with a Audi A6 matrix

Maybe the BMW matrix is more plug and play but we need to know which model it is.

i second that,i will do it next month and will update in here,if it works, hell everyone will be happy including myself,he said he is doing it,if the sensor can be attached to the rubber pipe instead of the metal, hevac will not go crazy and it will function properly,i will querry more about it and let u all know.

The mention of alternative heater matrix options is interesting this is something I was wondering myslef if you could move to a more convential setup.

I did have a quikc look on ebay but it didn't trun up any similar looking options. I did notice that the original Renault Secnics and some Pug 206s have a similar setup with a matrix and pipes with O-rings.

Do you have any details of the thread on Rangerovers.net

If u want a temporary fix to get ur car on the road, bypass the matrix.
If u want an alternative wait a month till i do mine and get the full details and share it on lz.and of course u can fix urs..good luck.

Don't know too much about the matrix or the o rings, but could you use slightly thicker silicone o rings instead? They compress better and don't go brittle and then leak?
Maybe?

Thanks for that, I am going to have one more attmept one night in the week and if it fails then I am going to bypass the matrix as i need the car in the next week to tow my track car.

Eiher way I am deffinatley interested in what you do with an alternative matrix, so deffinatley post the details of it when you do it.

I had considered thicker normal O rings when i was trying to get some the right size at the weekend, not seen silicone O rings before but will go do some research.
