Hi all,

My heater motor has gone kaput, at speeds 1 & 2. 3 is ok which seems odd. There was a lot of squeaking before it went.

All the replacements i can find on the internet mention aircon. I dont have aircon and its a 200tdi.

Anyone a) have a spare b) know a good scrap place in the berks/bucks area c) know the correct part number!

Thanks

Pete

Part number is RTC6693.

Only available source is from BritPart.

The motor is too small and has to be shimmed to fit, the resistor pack is 1/3 smaller than original but sufficient, spot welded to the body of the motor and requires a bit of work to get it free and then more work to sort out the motor casing.

You've more chance of getting a BJ off Kim Kardashian than finding a good serviceable unit in a scrapyard, probably finding a 200Tdi heater box will be hard enough.

Possibly the heater potentiometer (fan speed controller) is faulty MXC 5705. It's also fitted the early RR, I had to replace it on my 1987 model without ac RR, so ignore the reference to ac in the potentiometer discretion in the disco's parts catalog.

Ok, that definately sounds like part of the problem as only speed 3 works. 1 and 2 are completely dead. However there was a considerable level of squeaking before it failed, and a burning smell when it did go. A bit more than potentiometer - never heard that term - maybe?

Basically it just a variable resistor which a part can burn out and then that part is open circuit, it could be 25 years ago when I replaced mine but I can't remember it being a problem to do so.
The squeaky no doubt is the fans bearing, which appears to be a bronze bush and a pain to get at, but if it is you can spray something on the bearing but the squeak will return again some time later. The motor has a bearing but that's capped the only way to get that is dismantled the motor.
