Heater matrix/wet floor

Hi All,

As the title says, i have noticed a wet floor/carpet on the drivers side of my 300tdi disco. has any one got any ideas what this might be, guessing something heater matrixish possibly, but is there anyway to determine hose or matrix it self?. havnt had a chance to explore as have just noticed it. any help would be great.

rotten footwell. remove carpet and have a heart attack

air con drain come loose and ditching water to footwell?
blocked A pillar where sunroof drain exits allowing water into footwell?
as mhm sez, water coming up from wheel thru holes in floor?
dropped coffee into footwell?

does it loose water from coolant system?

You can tell if its the heater matrix by what water it is, if its oily and has a sweet taste to it then its coolant and the matrix or pipework, if its plain water the it could be blocked bulkhead drains, sunroof drain or leaking screen. If its the later strip it all out, dry it, put some paper down and get a hose on the screen e.t.c

Have spent all day stripping the dash board as found a dirty water stain on the carpet by the heater matrix arfter closer examination. Now my question is arfter looking at the matrix and not seeing any visible holes in it ,But a big build up of dirt, would the matrix only leak when i have the heater on full blow, due to pressure threw a small hole etc?

the blower dont affect water pressure.

ok fair enough.

think i must have a small hole somwhere in the matrix,as the foam surround is soaked at the end hose connector end. will change the o-rings at the end of the hoses tho as well. do they have a part number that someone can qoute for me as well as the copper sealing rings.

You sure it isn't blocked aircon drain holes - when blocked they leak from the area around the heater. If it's a leaky matrix, as another poster says, I would expect the water to smell of antifreeze and have that slightly oily feel.

Hi there. I am in the Auto air con business for over 10 years so maybe I could be of help. Although i am 3 days old in the Landy world as I just bought my defender last Tuesday. In order to zoom into the problem. Is your car equipped with AC or just a heater?

Well that's that bit solved no air con no problem from it but it sounds like you have got to the bottom of it had a similar drama but turnd out it was a pin hole in the inlet hose. only leaked when under pressure.

Ok so since there is no air con, no condensate, no drain blockage or overflow. It has to be the heater of the heater hoses. You should notice loss in the coolest level. The cheeky bit is the wet floor mat get cold at night and water vapor will condensate on it more. So h need to make sure it is fully dry after you seal the leakage. take it out of he car for a couple of days and put in the sun. Which I know is difficult to do in the UK. I hope this helps.

Sorry for the typing errors, I meant heater hoses and coolent level.

Im Guessing my problem is a pin hole with the heater matrix itself, as the hoses were all dry but the bottom of the matrix itself was wet.

By matrix do u mean the housing or the heat exchanger itself (heater core)?

Ok run the landy up to temp and pressure then you should see the leak in the heater matrix or if you have the dash out already remove and pressure test it. If passes move on to the next thing hoses also remove carpets and sound deadening and dry out. Check all drains are clear including the intake of the heater itself as leaf litter and mud can clog them.

Right i have replaced the old matrix for a new one, and the landy is now up to temp, which it got to fairly quickly....!! But i have had the blowers on for about 20mins and im not getting hot air so figureing that i have a air lock in the heater matrix system somewhere. has any one got any ideas on how to bleed the matrix?

Remove black plugs from thermostat and radiator fill the system.
Replace radiator and thermostat plug.
Remove expansion tank cap run the car up to temp with heater on full hot when bubbles stop all is done,

You can also replace black plugs with brass ones or strangely I have seen house hold radiator bleed plug

Is it wrong that the engine heated up abit quicker than normal now that i have replaced the old leaky matrix.
