Hi all. I have a 2003 RR vogue 4.4 v8 petrol auto, the BMW engine.
I noticed coolant coming into the drivers footwell above the accelerator then on a later drive it came into passenger side. The engine temp guage remains normal but the blowers are only cold.
I’m thinking heater matrix unless anyone else has any suggestions? Lots of car experience but new to Landys so could do with any opinions.
Cheers

Pretty sure. When I first noticed it the liquid was cold, then when it happened again it was warm which is line with engine temp.
Is there more than one matrix maybe?

Nope, just the one heater matrix, sits centrally in the heater box behind the dash.....this single matrix is split into two halves, one for the passanger side and one for the drivers side.

The coolant pipes enter the matrix on the passanger side of the centre console through the bulkhead....

I would advocate tasting it - it will be obvious then if it is coolant or not, the fact it gets warm with engine temp is curious, but it would be next to impossible for the coolant to track its way up hill to above the accelerator pedal. There is a plastic duct that feeds cabin air to the footwell above the pedals, but unless your heater box is full of water and it is spilling over into this duct, it would not contain any fluids!!

It *could* be a leaky windscreen dribbling down and the fact it gets warm is just an action of the car interior warming up......remember the M62 runs at 105degC so hot coolant is pretty noticeable!

In that case I’ll have a swig when I get chance.
I am loosing coolant and it must be going somewhere. No sign of it under vehicle when idling so was concerned about head gasket but oil is normal and still pulls like a train.
Should I be driving it?

How much coolant are you loosing?

There is a common place the M62 leaks and you'll have difficulty spotting it, and that is the manifold on the rear of the engine that links the two 'blocks' of the vee together and ties them into the coolant pipes....this has been known to leak and where it is, it leaks onto the hot gearbox and the back of the hot engine, so the coolant evaporates before it hits the ground and difficult to spot!

After top up, warning light can be on within about 15mins.

So ive had a butchers, warmed her up and indeed there is steam coming from the engine near the bulkhead but only on the drivers side.
I went looking for the interior leak as well and can’t find it now! Perhaps the earlier suggestion of widescreen type leak is right as it’s not raining today and I actually have several separate issues.
As I am having cabin heat problems, I played again with heater controls and I have got heat into the top vents but not the front facing ones.

I guess I need to fix the engine side first and go from there.

Anyone got a thread on this?

Face vents have a seperate 'Temp' toggle under the hazard light switch....set this to hot also, else all you'll get is cold air.....if it feels loose when you turn it, it could be the cable has come adrift.....you should feel some resistance when turning the toggle..

When you say 'Warning Light' is this the red temp warning light on the gauge - or the Check Coolant Level Warning on the message centre?

@holidaychicken may have done the rear manifold and be able to give pointers or photos....

Number 1: Download RAVE - this is the official workshop manuals suite for the Land Rover products....

Number 2: Read it..!!!

(I wonder who that smooth talker is on the video??? :D:D:D:D:D:D )

Yes I have and yes I have, just not with me , could it be one of the ally pipes running to the manifold from the water pump?
