Have you bleed the air from the system via the heater pipe bleed screw?
If the cooling system is pressurized before the gauge moves then it's possible that the HG has failed. I leak down test is the most reliable way to check ;)

well what i've found was the block was somwhat clogged, so i flushed it several times, looking at the thermostat, it seems to be working, i've boiled it and it has seemed to open... but the bottom part of the stat just streches out,... im wondering if its even opening right... is the first image suppose to open more??

The cone should lift off the seat when the stat senses the opening temp. My last HGF was due to the stat failing to open!!

Ok, i just got a therm straight from the dealer, hey i been driving for about a year with 50/50 green coolant and my manual says (OAT) i think orange(dex) well at least the coolant tank shows orange.... could this be a possible reason for stat malfunction, via (dex) is for aliumium/brass/copper? And or does freelander take red or green?

I am all for helping people, niccage, but the 4 or 5 heater Fred's you have posted on are all at least 8 months old.........

I cant see a problem with that. Those threads will soon enough get old, but there is good info to add to the thread.

Very informative youtube video in my opinion.

Yes very good vid and it's good that people are helping others, but perhaps keep it to the recent threads and not drag one up from 5 years ago?

I guess they're old, but I actually made the video and Youtubed it out of thanks for being able to find so much on the Net for free, especially knowledgable professionals like Hippo who are so kind to put it all on here for free.

The more knowledge the better! Thanks Niccage for doing the video, very informative, as are your other ones!!!

It's funny i think of some of my videos and Hippo's comments about some nutter doing the solenoid resistance testing on the gearbox with the engine running and battery completely connected..... i fear the exact same thing for someone watching my video on how to adjust the thermostat setting on your electric home water heater, notice i've saturated it with safety warnings..! hehehe The wires inside there are much more than just 12V, i still think there's bound to be some nutter out there who'll open that panel and start messing with the wires but in the excitement of it all has forgotten to switch off the power......!
