Hiya, it rained bigtime here in sunny Spain today  so on the school run I turned the heater control to blast the windscreen to stop it steaming up. After a while it did start to steam up a little so I thought I'd apply a little warmth too so I turned the heater up to about half way. Little while later I realised two things, 1) I can blow air down to the footwells or straight out or a mixture of both but I can't blow air up to the windscreen. 2) The heater doesn't blow hot and the passenger control on the right only turns about 2/3 of the way towards hot.

Ok, so how does the whole mechanism work? Is it electrickery or are there flaps not working? As I type this I realise that I haven't felt the hoses going to the heater or in fact checked to see if there are any! I'm merrilly hoping that there's a simple (ahem) solution to this that doesn't involve stripping the dash out!

Cheers
Rich

Both the heat output and where the air goes are controlled by cable operated mechanical dampers or flaps. The temperature of the air can be controlled separately for the drivers side and the passengers side.
Its sounds as though your dampers are not being operated correctly by the three control knobs. The usual reason is that the cables have either detached from or slipped where they connect to the control knobs. They could also have come off the dampers.
Have a look at Section 80 of this, and all may be revealed.
