ok, so now for my next problem. The heater display shows an icon of an open book with an exclamation mark sometimes. It goes off after a while. I don't think the heater works properly, but it does work to a degree. I guesss the icon comes up for a number of reasons, how do i find out the fault that the icon is displaying so that i can fix it? Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You will have to get fault codes read. Otherwise you could be playing with it for ever.

Is there any software available that you can load onto a laptop to access the fault codes, or do you need a scantool to access them?

No software. Only the over priced readers available at the moment. Maybe some reasonable stuff around shortly.

Hi take a look in the engine compartment fuse box at relay No7 if its cracked underneath where the contact pins go and a burnt mark on the relay this could be your problem I found it on the range rover common problems and fixes web site and mine is just the same as yours at the moment he shows you how to repair the fusebox but it looks like a tricky job I`m going to get a used one first and see if that does the trick then I might have a go at repairing mine, Hope this is of some help
