Heated wing mirror not working.

I had to replace the drivers side mirror on my 98 freelander(after coming back to it to find someone had clipped it and smashed the glass). I bought a used one on ebay that looked fine, with both connectors intact. But after fitting it found the mirror doesn't heat up. It still works on the passenger side. Strangely, the intermittent wiper adjuster stopped working at the same time.

Is there a link, is it coincidence, is it the new mirror??? Can anyone help.

checked both of mine on friday as neither were heating up, both of the connectors on both of the mirrors were intact and power was there but neither heat up so I'd imagine the elements give up at some point
