I'm in the throws of starting my soft top conversion on my 90 TD5... yeah I know its a bit late for summer, but given everything I've done on the her so far has taken 10times as long as first thought I should be in time for next!!

Anyway... As part of this work, I'll be loosing the rear door and replacing with a side opening tailgate, which means the heated rear screen goes as well. That got me thinking could I then fit a heated windscreen and just use the wiring/ switch for the rear one? Any problems with doing that? things I would need to consider?

As always many thanks in advance for you help. ;)

I would hazard a guess the front screen will draw more power than the rear one, from memory in a disco it was something like 8/10 amps per side so a potential draw of 16/20 amps?

That's a good point... hadn't even considered the AMPs

the front heated screen is wired in 6 mm cable protected by a 30 amp fuse the rear screen heater is wired in 2.5 mm cable which reduces to 1.5 mm cable protected by a 20 amp fuse so I would strongly advise
you install new wiring and not to use the rear circuit unless you require in cab heating for a short while at the side of the road

Thanks @myster for the advice and makes perfect sense... rather do the job properly than bodge it :)
