Heated seat test

i have a multi meter and i have Heated seats in my TD4

the question is what should the resistance be of the element as when i turn them on they dont get warm and want to check

If you disconnect the connector below the seat you should be able to measure a voltage applied when they're switched on. Not sure what the resistance is of the element in the seat but measuring something as opposed to nothing (open circuit) would be a start.

The heater pads in my MG were 25 watts iirc. So a resistance of around 5 Ohms would be about right.

The heated seats in my 2002 are "mild" for want of a better word, it takes a good few minutes to notice any benefit (possibly because of the leather) but they do give some comfort when warmed up a bit.

As Nodge68 suggested the resistance of the element will be in single digits, to give 25 watts at 12 volts you will need 2 amps which would give a resistance of 6 ohms.

Not sure about the Freelander but on old Jags and Volvo's that I have had with heated seats which don't work - it's usually the connecting wires that come detached rather than the element itself failing so it's worth peeling back the seat cover to have a look.
