Current weather has made me look more closely at the screens. I have 3 lines on the rear that don't work and only a 6 inch vertical section on the front that does, just drivers side of central.

I've looked at the element lines themselves on the back but can't see anything obvious. Is there anything that can be fixed or is it a just time to replace it?

Front - obviously some power is getting through but how does that work?

Not likely to spend any time trying to sort it now but its just adding to the list of little niggles to sort before next winter.

So heated seats, cruise, screens so far.

the front screen has a left and right side with separate fuses/relays and plugs to the screen.

the rear screen is easy to fix.... go to maplins and buy some conductive paint .Look at the ellements and you should see the breaks. Just a little dab of paint ant it should work....

Front screen stuff is under the passenger seat?
Aren't the elements embedded in the glass then? I assumed they were, must be on the inside then.

The front screen element is embeded between the layersof glass.
The rear screen is fine ellement on the inside surface. It is usually broken by luggage rubbing on it or wiping the screen bare handed and a ring damaging the element.

I've been thinking about getting mine changed, the previous owner fitted a non heated one it's not even tinted!!!!!
I rang around and was quoted around the £350 mark which seemed reasonable. They side that if I've got fully comp. That I'd only need to pay the excess (which is nice...;)) they said I wouldn't even need to through a hammer at it!!!!

The screens do get warm on the outsideas in fact if you think about it how else would you melt ice!

you can feel the window is warmer by compareing it to the unheated side window.

so long as it works, I am happy, i may put it in my 72 when I get it done, wonder how hard the wirng would be?

Wiring is dead easy. switch, two fuse holders, two relays.
Similar sort of job to wiring up a couple of decent lights.
Paying for the screen is the hard bit.
Then you either tell your insurers that you've modified your car or
you've got to buy another one if you damage it.

I remember (I'm an old man) buying a heater that fitted onto the back screen with two suckers. O.K. I think I was looking for something for a Morris Minor or Ford Anglia, to show how long ago it was, but something like this would give similar results but a lot simpler and cheaper.

Relays need to be timed relays or it'll stay on all the time.

was quoted £960 to replace my front screen:eek:

Halfrauds ice scraper £1.99:D
hi i had the same problem with my front screen so i paid the £50.00 excess and got a new screen the price of the screen was £970.00 from autoglass

NOT CHEAP Huh!!!!

I'll be honest, my front heated screen either works very well or not at all, because I haven't noticed any lines not demisting, but as yet haven't had any problems with misting up either - and it was -19'C here the other night!!

Mine works really well on the driver's side - to the point of clearing a couple of mm of solid ice under snow within 5 mins. I simply brushed the snow off with a soft broom and let the screen do the rest until the ice started fragmenting and sliding down the screen, when I brushed it off.

I orignally thought the passenger side wasn't working, but it does seem to; just really badly. I've decided that must be corroded contacts, so I'll pull the under-windscreen scuttle trim off and check that first.

A heated screen is a bloody useful gadget I never knew I needed until a month ago :D
