Hello,
I have looked at a 2006 Freelander 1 TD4 HSE over the weekend and I noticed the heated screen switch is just blank.

I thought all HSE's came with a heated front screen?

I have done an online check if the vehicle and it comes back as an HSE model so a bit confused as to why the button would be blank?

I believe the HFS became part of the winter pack option on all models, by mid 2005. I'm not 100% sure on this, but do remember reading it somewhere.

Was the screen screen fitted aa actual heated screen?

If not, was it an aftermarket replacement? (Non LR screen)

I've seen one FL1 that had everything in place for the HFS, except for that actual screen. This standard screen got fitted as the owner's insurance didn't cover the glass that got cracked, and the owner couldn't afford the £500 a replacement HFS costs. So a standard screen was fitted instead.

To check if it should have the HFS, you can also check it has the relay for it under the bonnet. Also did the car have a FBH fitted?

To be honest I only clocked the button as I was leaving, which was just blank, even if they had of fitted a normal screen wouldn't the button of still been there? Bit of an odd one for sure, everything else is there, heated seats, parking sensors, harmon sound system, navigation etc, strange!

Ideally you could do with checking if it should have the HFS, if it's important to you. I personally would and did avoid vehicles that were missing the HFS.

The button can be swapped out, if someone wants to hide a missing option. I've seen this before, on my own SE, where the parking sensors were missing, and the button was removed to hide it.

It's easy to tell if should have the HFS fitted. Check the relay is there, also the FBH, if those are missing, then the HFS wasn't specified when the vehicle was ordered.

You can also check the build spec against the VIN, if you have it.

Hello, ok many thanks, I will try and get some more info. I have never had a heated front screen before so not sure if its something I will miss if I never had it but just seemed strange it didn't have it.

Is the fuel burning heater easy to locate/see ?

You can check if the FBH is fitted by looking just in front inside and up the NS wheel, if fitted you will see the exhaust pipe sticking out of an hole on the under tray.

I've had the HFS for so long, I really miss it if they're not fitted. I actually rejected several FL1s because it was missing.

The wife's new Mazda CX5 doesn't have it, and it's all the worst for it.

I can see where they would be handy in winter to be honest. I will try and get the VIN from the dealer, its not exactly down the road so will send them an email :)

Oh yes. Especially if it's fogged on the inside, or frosty on the outside.

This was about a minute of HFS use, on a frosty morning when the outside temperature was -5°C.
