Heated door mirrors on a fender?

Forgot to update the thread, I finally got the beggars in. I finally found out how to get into the TD5 centre console.

You have to remove the top of the dashboard which is a pain in the arse.

I decided to run a 30a bable from the battery via a small blade fusebox in the battery box (Also wired the 12s caravan supply through this box too and have two spares for the future). This feed I took to a relay in the centre console.

I took the feed for the switch from the ignition live to the cigarette lighter (solid purple) and earthed the switch, relay and mirror heads via one of the windscreen wiper boxes. (its worth noting that I needed to do up all the nuts on both the wiper boxes while the dash top was off)

So do they work, hmm the drivers one does :frusty: no life from the n/s so will have to investigate again when I can be arsed.

However I can say, especially after driving through the recent foggy mornings that the mirrors mist over, that the heated mirror worked extremely well.

I am pleased that I wired them independently from the heated front and rear screens, certainly in the foggy conditions I didn't need the other heaters, just the mirrors.

Now for thos really cold mornings all I need is a demister for the internal mirror.

I've fitted the RDX heaters to my 90. They are really rather good and very well priced.

Glad I found this thread...have been thinking of getting the mud stuff kit and doing this but wasn't sure how best to hide the wires. Thanks!

I've got the MUD stuff kit. Haven't fitted them yet but had the same idea of feeding them down through the mirror and inside the arm.

I think its the most elegant, the kit I bought off the bay of fleas recommended just tie wrapping the wires under the arm then drill through the hinge body itself. However the actual tube within the spring is tough steel.

It then suggested drilling through the door hinge and into the door skin and taking the cables through the electric windows conduit. This however leaves them in the engine bay looking for a way back through the bulkhead.

Fortunately I not only noticed the above method which I first dismissed, but I met a colleague in the local Landy club who had recently installed them and explained what he had done.

There is one downside of fitting the wire under the door seal though and that was noticeably more water in my foot wells this winter, though given the rain we have all endured that could be coincidental.

Indeed I removed the carpets as they were sopping wet, methinks it is time to reinstall them now.
