Heat Shields P38

Has anybody ever found after-market heat shields ? I tried 3 different after market parts retailers and all said the same thing, genuine part only.

Gen part no's are WEB101840 and ESR3666. Believe it or not £70 and £48 a piece :eek:

I reckon if somebody took this on and produced decent quality replacements they would be onto a good thing.
 
hi all, i'm a newbee to LZ and I hope someone can help with my problem.
I'm in the process of stripping down my 4.0 P38 as I've blown a head gasket. Problem is, the heat shields over the manifolds.
The bolts where so siezed that I've had to all but destroy them to get them off.
Is it safe to run without these in place. I know they protect the leads and plugs from excess heat but is there any other reasons why they should be in place.
Any thoughts please.:confused::confused::confused:

I heard, and please correct me if I am wrong, that not having these heat-shield could in extreme condition start a fire in the engine bay area.
 
serious stuff, thanks for that.
Will have to invest or fabricate some. Apparently they are £40 a side from the main stealer.
 
Aluminium and tin snips can take you a long way ...and above make out of aluminium cheap and simple to work with they haven't got to look pretty, they just got to do there job
