Hii have asked this question before but forgot the answer.Myheadlights seem pretty dim so i want some better bulbs in.Which should i go for please.i have 4 lucas llb477 55w bulbs in the cupboard i,m wondering if these were the bulbs i was advised to buy when i asked the question before ???.TIA
 
If it has standard incandescent bulbs, then they'll by H7. If you want brighter bulbs, then you need to buy to Osram night breakers or Philips vision extreme bulbs. Both of these will be quite a bit brighter than your generic H7 bulbs.

the vehicle as got the manual leveling switch so i would say there the standard bulbs.If i remember correctly i was told the nightbreakers don,t last very long.Is that correct ??.If thats the case i will look into the philips bulbs.Thanks
 
How long bulbs last is entirely dependent on the design light output and the voltage they are driven at. I always fit them to every car I buy.
Our Kuga had dreadful lights as standard, so I changed them to Night Breakers within a few weeks of getting it. The light output is now much improved and they haven't failed after 22 months and 25K miles. I don't consider a 12 to 18 months bulb life as a problem as the extra light available more makes up for it.

The only way to get more light output from a normal bulb is to run the filament hotter and that means a shorter life. If you read the packaging on the Osram Nightbreaker it does say they have only 50% of the life expectancy of the standard lamps. However in my experience this is still much greater than anything Ring or Halfords branded...

Hi Nodge 68 sorry about this but did we say that i needed h7 Bulbs for my headlights.The vehicle as the manual levelling system.Just been reading the manual and it says the bulbs are H11 Halogen or the D1S Xenon no mention of h7 ???

They are normally H7 for reflector type lights.
D1S is a gas discharge lamp (commonly and incorrectly called a Xenon)
H11 is a plastic based bulb, that is sealed from the back requiring no weather seal. These are often used in fog lamps where access is from the wheel arch.
It is possible to have H11 bulbs fitted where the lamp is often fitted with a projector lense.
If you have H11 bulbs, then you could fit an H9 by trimming the base. The H9 has a 65 Watt filament whereas the H11 has a 52 Watt filament. The H9 is about 50% brighter than a standard H11.
If you are unsure about what type of bulb is fitted, then remove one first to check the type. ;)

Just looked at handbook on line for a 2012MY and it lists H11

The headlights changed to a projector style around then and the bulbs changed to suit
