Head breather hose

Last one I promise.... Or until it fails it's mot on Monday :D

Where can the breather hose go to from the head? When I got it the hose was attached to nothing just the breather on the rocker cover.
I believe the other end is meant to go on the air box but there is no attachment on mine.
Is this hose needed?
 
Both my tdis it is vented to atmosphere one down the side of the engine, this drips and is messy, the other ends under the brake servo and doesnt drip at all.
Its quite an important pipe so dont blank it off etc.
 
Other important point is if you do deep wading/mud etc its best to have it routed into the inlet trunking as std, but it has to be quite deep to worry about that.

Some people route them to atmosphere when the engine gets tired as it passes oil and makes a mess of the air filter and the insides of all the intercooler piping.
