what is the best thread repair kit for my head bolts?got a second hand block but a few threads are stripped out would like to use this block as it has top hats fitted.was planing on putting a stud kit in it instead of bolts, but if i was ever to remove the heads again would they come off the studs without hitting the sides of the engine bay?anyone ever done this its a p38?where is the best place to get a repair kit?. thanks

did the helicoil hold up good?was looking at the wurth time sert inserts ,they look a lot stronger but very expensive .anyone know the size of the bolts threads?

The wurth time inserts are brilliant i have used them before ive also had a man come to my workshop and fit a set to a (BMW alloy block) i wouldn't trust a helicoil for a head bolt repair, there only any good on things that dont have to be done up very tight.

helicoils are better than original threads if fitted properly they are used by landrover and others in some castings ,where stronger threads are needed than parent metal will provide, they are stronger than original thread because when you tigthen bolt they excert a side ways force into casting making them less likely to pull out ,they do need to be fitted carefully and right lenght used, also there are many different makes like lego

I still wouldn't trust them on head bolts, wurth are far far better. You realy need to see the wurth system in use to see how good it is, you won't want to use a helicoil again.

think i will try the wurth time serts,so question now is what size do i need?on the catalogue they all seem to be very short inserts ,half inch- 3 quarter inch is that long enough?thought it would half to be at least 1 and a half inch
