HDC and TC Warning lamps on - No Brake Lights

Symptom HDC and TC Warning lamps on - No Brake Lights

Fuse F2 OK

Replaced Brake Pedal Switch with a new version all ok now.

Lie on you back in the footwell and look up using a torch.

The brake light switch is on the left hand side of the brake pedal when viewed from underneath and is located on a bracket. There is a loom running underneath it so it is difficult to see at first.

1) Remove cable plug from brake pedal switch and move aside (it is adamant that it wants to get in the way when you are positioning the new switch).

2) Rotate old switch by about 45 deg to remove from bracket. Mine came away easily.

3) The new version of the switch requires a separate cable assembly which you must purchase separately. Attach this new cable to the new switch.

4) Fit new switch to brake pedal bracket (It is keyed and will only go in one way. Care .. there is a long and short lug. Press the switch towards the bracket and rotate to fix (reverse of removal)

5) Connect the plug you removed from the old switch to the other end of the new cable you fitted to the switch.

6) Turn on the ignition and press the brake pedal once. Warning lamps should go out and your brake lights should operate normally.

Took me about 30 mins and parts cost £21 but i'm not as agile as i used to be !

The old switch plunger was jammed in. Took it to bits to have a look but the slider had fractured. It was completely US

I did just this and it seems it didn't work ? Could it be that it needs time ?

Could it also be the throttle cable that needs tightening ?
How do I do that ?

Are you brake lights working ?
silly question but have you checked fuse 2
sure you connected up the switch again ?

Mine, I had to touch the brake pedal and switch off the ignition and on again but the fix was almost immediate.

Hey! The hdc warning light is always on. My breaklights are working, fuse 2 is ok, and it is connected. Been driving with it for a few days still no difference
Any other tips?

Hello I need some help please, I've got a Freelander TD4 2001, my HDC an TC lights flash on and off sometimes, On Sat night I was driving down the motorway at 70 and quite worryingly the lights kept flashing on and off and then the vibrating started, the vibrating stopped when I came off the throttle but back on again when you go back on it. I have read the posts about TC and HDC etc but no one seems to have reported this vibrating at speed, I slowed down to 50 ish, and it seemed to come and go. Next day I went out and she was running as smooth as anything, It has recently been for MOT and there was nothing wrong, (although ball joint or wheel bearing problems I wouldn't expect to be intermittent, or wheel balance)so I am thinking along the lines of a faulty sensor telling the TC to reduce power to the spinning wheel, putting the abs on, which then causes the vibration, do you know of anyone who has had this problem? thanks

The vibration could be mis-matched tyres, or prop shaft bearings, My guess is tyres for most vibration problems.

I don't think its tyres as I replaced them all at the same time, and the vibration comes and goes, ruling out balance problems, or a buckled wheel.
After spending most of today searching the internet and speaking to the nice chap at Bell engineering, (as we thought it may be VCU or IRD) we are going to check the rear CV's, to see if they are dry and causing vibration when hot. If thats not the problem then I think we need to remove the props and look at the UJ's.

All I can say is I had the same problem as yours. What caused my problem was two cheap tyres I purchased for the back. As soon as they were put on I noticed a vibration at different speeds, that lasted almost 11 months until I could not stand it anymore. I changed the tyres for Pirelli Scorpion STR's and the vibration stopped instantly. Do a search on the forum to find out the best tyres to put on a freelander.
