Hi All.

Recently purchased a FreeLander TD4 Sport Premium '04 reg with Auto box, which is developed a strange fault.

TC and HDC warning lights come on, about once in every 4-6 starts. If you turn off and immediatly restart the engine, they'll go away and come back in a few starts time.

Any idea what would cause this?

Regards,

If you do a search you will find it is a common fault and there is a lot of information on it. Commonest cause is the brake light switch.

Cheers. Strange thing is, some days it won't do it at all. Some days it'll do it on every engine start.

To make the fault go away you don't even have to fully start the engine. Just crank the starter once, then turn off the ignition and re-start and the fault lights go away.

I have a generic OBDII scanner which will work with the FreeLander but I doubt it'll throw any engine codes for this. It'd more likely be on the TC or ABC controller :(

Any way of diagnosing the cause of the problem? Any good LandRover diagnostic tools out there? I presume a local independant dealer wouldn't have anything special computer wise...?

Having been a VW enthusiast for a long time i've all the relevant diagnostic equipment on my laptop - and only having generic OBDII access to the FreeLander I feel extreamly 'in the dark'!
