hdc amber light

hi all Ive got a 1.8 freelander :doh: and the hdc amber light keeps comming on when I set off in 1st. wont come on in reverse light stays green also tc works put foot down off road set off fine and abs ok too also tried bumping down hill in second to see if it is something to do with 1st gear
amber light still comes on help !!!

duzz it go orf when yu get to 5 mles an hour?

I would suspect a broken wire leading up to the gear lever that is shorting out when you engage 1st or reverse. The strain put on the wire resulting in a break was the reason they moved the switch on later models.

thanks for the help but the amber light comes on when the hdc is selected or not its when i get over 5mph or 1000 revs

check the following possibilities,

First gear sensor, its multiplug and wiring.

Sticking throttle or throttle position sensor.

Brake lamp relay in passenger compartment fuse box or brake light switch.
