Basically, I want a slight lift on my disco, but not massive, just a for a bit more articulation and to make life easier with the 235 85s I'm soon fitting. I'm thinking some heavy duty springs and shocks so I get about a 1" lift. I wouldn't mind a 2" lift but don't want it to be sloppy as fook on the road.
Any ideas?

Cheers.

In some cases heavy duty springs will make it feel tighter on the road as it wont lean as much however it can then lead to a harsher ride especially over bumps

Heavy duty springs can also give u less articulation as they are harder to compress

I run bearmach HD springs and standard size monroe adventurer shocks

Sits about 1" higher without too much strain on the drivetrain

I have however a lot of weight in mine such underbody protection as well as winch and bumper and roof rack and when I go off laning I have anchor, waffles and hi lift on board as well as a mate or two

you can get different rates as well so prolly best to check with a decent supplier and discuss with them what you want to achieve so they can advise you right. I think you will prob have to fit extended bump stops as well with the 85's which in turn will also have an affect on articulation.

However I run 265/75/16 with a bit of cutting and I have never had any problems when off roading with standard or even 2" lifted discos.

HD springs however on a side slope will make the vehicle lean less. Surprising the amount of leaning a 2" lifted disco does on a side slope compared to a HD sprung one.

I fitted heavy duty rear springs and standard relacement shockers, as the old stuff was original it lifted the disco by at least an inch and the ride is better than it was with the warn out suspension. To raise it an inch more I used spacers and have been very pleased with the result and ride quality.

My Disco has Britpart (I think) HD springs all round. Not a 'proper' lift, but 'cos they don't sag it's effectively lifted to about an inch. Fine on road and with the BFG AT's I have on, as 90boy, TimC and Nathan5346 can tell you, it performs pretty well off-road too ... ;)

Simple you dont need a lift to fit em :D

Well I know the 235s will just fit with a bit of arch trimming etc, but I just want a bit of a lift and some new springs and shocks as the original ones are getting a bit tired and worn out, and I fancy HD just so it's not sloppy. Say if i get 2" lift springs, could I get some harder shocks to not make it sloppy?

I fitted mine to help with the weight of kit and four people being carried, while we tow a caravan/horses/motorbikes etc etc.

It has to be said when running solo with no luggage or off-roading gear in the back it can get a bit bouncy, but everything's a compromise .. and we tow the caravan at least once a fortnight, often more. Spent 37 nights out in it this year so far and only maybe 15 days green-laning ... though we do also, when I can, go laning when we're out caravanning!

Without the caravan, IYSWIM .. ;)
