I have been looking to improve my Defender 2001 TD5 security and have a pedal lock, removable steering wheel etc but I am very aware that these vehicles were under threat from people who just want to take parts. The current Land Rover alarm fitted doesn't have any motion sensors as far as I am aware and simply sounds the horn if a door is opened when it is armed, it doesn't even have a loud sounder. So I am thinking of fitting a better alarm and have looked at the Hawk 240 alarm and immobiliser which they currently have on offer for £38 including delivery!, DIY fit of course. Cheapest I can find for someone to fit a Thatcham 1 alarm system is around £300.
The Hawk sounds good but the price makes me wonder how good? Has anybody got any experience of fitting a Hawk alarm to a Defender and has it been reliable?
