Had heard of Treadlightly through GLASS, but do wonder how supportive the highways authority would be.

Unfortunately, in my experience - which has not been related to green lanes or byways - local authorities can be so risk averse that they are shy of supporting almost all volunteer provided works. The admin, checking liability insurance etc, becomes too much of a pain for them, so they don't bother :(

Also, I'm afraid the cynic in me thinks that some highways authorities wouldn't want lanes to be repaired, as in some cases, the authority's policy is not to support motorised traffic anyway, and ongoing damage is a great way to justify TROs.

This is a shame, because I suspect that, as a community, there would be general support to volunteering to repair or mark lanes, if someone would provide the direction and materials to do so.
