Im in the middle of a disco 300tdi into a 86 110 conversion, and have parts left from a scrap disco i had around a year ago i can use for it.

The box has been sitting outside for the past year, i had a look at it tonight and the adjustment screw is wound right out with no locking nut and also missing two cover bolts, god knows why.

Has the adjustment screw being screwed out ruined anything and how would it be set correctly again?

If the rest of it is in good condition I would think it's ok. The adjustment screw takes up any lash in the steering. I would be concerned that any water had got inside though.

It was inside a black bin bag so shouldnt have gotten in, clean fluid is comming out of it now.

bolts are the same that hold the hand brake back plate to the output housing, you adjust by ensuring input shaft is half way between the 2 locks then rock input by hand whilst screwing in adjuster you stop when free play is just removed and a very slight load put on, its vital its done exactly half way between the 2 locks, nut is a special nut with a seal built in

Cheers!
Is the nut avaliable to buy on its own or just part of the overhaul kits?

Trawled through my many boxes of nuts and bolts and found the bloody thing.

Should i just copy the length the allen screw is sticking out on my other disco, then install into the defender, and adjust as needed after its all fitted?.
