when playing with my central locking motors I have discovered the motor (the bit that normally fails) can be replaced

IE if your front passenger side motor fails (common fault) the motor from a rear door can be fitted

if this hasn't been covered I will try and get photo's and instructions for repair I know the passanger front motor's are harder to find and cost lots more than a rear door motor

hi luke, yes the motors are very easy to replace, they just unclip from their retaining contacts.A lot of people now know this,so the price of rear door locks is rising. You must find out first why the locks failed, usualy the r/f reciever which repeatedly relocks the locks when it recieves rogue signals or a faulty receiver. This will burn out the larger motor in the lock, the smaller operates the superlock:)

My 98 p38 has a failed front pass side central locking motor, but still locks and unlock other doors when u use the internal catch, Jus won't work off key fob, so if I find a rear door motor it will fit? As oppose to my rear drivers side Lock doesn't do anything, is need the whole lot? Us this correct ? Cheers in advance

the passenger side motor has failed micro switch's are fine which is why the other doors will lock from it, and yes you will need a whole unit for the rear door

Seem to remember someone saying an equivilant motor is available on t'net.....can't find the thread but it wasn't that long ago.
Sure he said there is a number on the motor tha can be searched for.
Worth a punt?

hi,i asked a few months ago about replacement motors but got no response.I trawled micro motor manufacturers on the web in china and vietnam but didnt come up with anything.Got close with the motor but it was the shaft length that was the problem,to short as usual.Somebody somewere must produce the,Ill keep looking,I could end up the locking motor baron of the uk !:)
