a rear crossmember (body) before? , I have to put a new one in the 72 RRC when I start it , I am going to buy one rather than make one but I want to gather all the info I can before I do it , step by step guide would be nice.

I have bought the 1970 to 77 factory repair manual and haynes but they dont have anything on it , bought the haynes RRC restoration guide too but that only has a few words and says its best to buy a whole new rear frame which i will not be doing!

I have looked on a few sites mainly from peoples restorations including that guys 7(4?) classic but thay are not very detailed so all help greatly appreicated as I want to do this once and do it right first time!

What you do will depend on what you are getting in your kit to fix it. Basically it will be put the new part up against the chassis and see where it welds in. Grind off the old welds in the same place and remove the cross member, then weld in the new one. Unless you are a good welder it will not be easy as you will have to do some welds upside down.

Thing is what should I remove , in what order , what can you work round , wheres the best place and quality parts, when you cut for a part from say paddocks where should I leave tabs for location etc etc

Like I siad steps or pics would be good as I would rather not learn on my new toy!

The only thing to do is get your bits. Then look how much you get and cut back to fit it, or make good up to where it fits if it's a rust bucket. No other way of doing it really.
 
You should only have to remove the rear bumper. You will also have to drop the fuel tank, move the wiring and fuel breather lines running across the cross member and maybe the two rear body mounts. Of course your tow bar if you have one.

Thats good news then , although I am sure just getting that lot off will give me enough grief with the rusted bolts!
