Just wondering if Adrian Flux has died? I recently got an automatic renewal by email from them. To my surprise if you don’t contact them to stop the renewal then they continue to renew your policy with them automatically. You don’t even get asked to reply or confirm you agree to the renewal as it’s assumed you do as it's automatic. Previously they would also check by phone just before renewal that everything was ok, with myself as the policy holder. They would always ask for me by name so I assume they wanted to know if I was still alive. As they haven’t done the phone call bit this year I was wondering if in the event of my death at the time of renewal would Mr Flux or one of his many siblings still try to take my money using the automatic renewal without checking if I was still alive? I always take out fully comprehensive cover. If in the event of my death would the renewed insurance cover still cover my car? Also, would the contents cover also cover my coffin for fire and theft* if I and my coffin were locked inside my car (assuming I still had both sets of keys) after my death?

*We plan to be cremated together

A lot of insurance company's do this, send you a letter letting you know of your renewal and say that if you're happy with it you need do nothing. It usually works in their favour as most people are too lazy to phone up or look for a cheaper quote so just go with it

Thats what I thought. Even stranger thing was if I wanted them to know I had a camera filming my driving it would only give me a £20 discount. But some confusion came in where if I didn't have the camera running/fitted at the time of the accident then they would be ok with not being given the film of the accident. Think we confused each other.

Hi

Automatic renewals have in general, been standard practice for some years now, it would be unusual for us to call a Client before a renewal.

Is there anything I can help you with?

Thanks

Dan

Ok, they maybe standard, but that does not mean they are wanted by the consumer. Is there any way we can opt out of auto renewal when we first take out the policy? Or better still, make it so that auto renewal requires an active op in.

i emailed flux not to re new my policy last year but they went ahead and did it anyway,
and still havent replied to any emails ive sent

says it all? whichever way yu take it

Hi

You can request to opt out of an automatic renewal with any company, thats not a problem at all.

Thanks

Dan

Hi

There is no reason why, if we had received an email from you we would not respond. Please PM me your reference and contact details and I will look into this urgently for you.

Thanks

Dan

my policy auto renewed this time round. I left it as i was going to be out of the country until the actual day of renewal.

I dont remember anyone ever asking me if i wanted to opt into auto renew.

I think its pretty bad that someone could have a large amount of money taken out of there account.

Flux took £600 out, i was ok for money so it wasnt a problem to call them and sort it out but for maybe a young family who are hard up it could be a real problem.

I think it should be a case of you opt IN and not opt OUT.

But you're not going to tell us HOW to do it, eh? so you still get to take money.

There are a couple of ways that you can opt out of your policy auto renewing.

Firstly, when taking a policy out, certainly with Adrian Flux, we have the facility to leave instructions for the renewals department to not auto renew your policy.

Alternatively, you could wait for your renewal price to come through the post and contact your insurer then to tell them that you are not looking to auto renew your policy. This would be the safer option in my opinion.

I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to drop me a PM if you have any other questions.

Enjoy your weekend

Renewals which come through via email can be missed if something kicks it out as spam and you miss it. You can tell your pc anti virus software to like the email address they send it from but as it's being done via email I still think it would be betterer to have a yes/no accept option. This may reduce the amount of auto-renewals accepted but it would give the consumer the choice to renew or not. Some insurance companies push the line of not having insurance is illegal and they use auto-renew to protect you. Trying to cancel one of these is difficult as they want you to prove you have alternative insurance. There are some who forget about insurance etc who may find auto-renewal handy.

i had one of these auto renewals take place on my bike through bennetts. Its really cheesed me off.

I had already insured the vehicle with someone else because they were taking the micky on price on the renewal so informed them that the vehicle was already insured elsewhere.

Still took 3 weeks to give me my money back!

Quick to have your money, but not to bloomin quick to give it back!

just like flux that

if i was in the country i would have scouted around for more quotes and gone else where as i think flux as a company have bad morals and **** customer service.

This year i will hopefully have time to look else where, ill even pay upto £50 more to go with another broker.

wont make a blind bit of difference to them but i will feel good about it :D

Im insured with em, £320 i think it was for 3k miles, sorted a claim out A1 but charged me £120 for increasing the mileage to 5k, will shop around on renewal, would want fully comp for that.
