Guys, I have been looking for a while not for a way to create an aux-in socket for my p38 harman-kardon system to allow an iPod, laptop, dd-player or any other sound source to be used through the excelent sound system.

I have tried the fm-modulator and casset-tape type solutions and ditched them due to being bothersome to use, having wires draped about and sounding pretty poor.

I recently found an american forum that showed how to create an input by piggbacking on the cd-changer loom. The cable used was pretty simple but they said it cost $200 and you can only buy it in America. So i'm a bit stumped. It seems that with some pretty basic wiring you can do a neat and effective job. But I can't find anywhere in this country that shows how the wiring is set up or offers a pre-made cable-adapter solution.

Not quite sure what I'm asking fro here but does anyone have anything helpfull to contribute ?

I've got an alpine av system in mine and just bought an iPod av cable from Argos for about 30 quid, just plugged that into an av in and now I can play music and video from my iPod in the car, it also has a usb plug so I can plug a laptop in and watch films play music whatever through the one cable, and it plugs into the iPod connector not a headphone jack

Is it just me that's not particularly impressed with the sound system? I would class mine as adequate - certainly not excellent. Perhaps I've got a fault on mine...? The standard one in my old Vectra sounded much better to my ears.

I just use a casette adaptor for my ipod and hide the ipod in the tray above (where the satnav screen would go if I had one), but I would certainly be interested in any direct connection that anyone comes up with. 200 is a stupid sum for a bit of wiring.

i'm sure someone on here sent theirs away for repair and had an aux input fitted. theres a thread on it in here somewhere. think it might have been a bloke on e bay did the job but could be wrong:rolleyes:

I was having a thought about this last night (as you do!). Wasn't there some kind of car phone interface to these stereos?

Could that be utilised somehow?

Just a thought.

I've opted for a sony head unit, it's wired in via a harness so that it can be unplugged and the original put back in.
It has a usb socket for my ipod and it also has blue tooth, this works on my phone as a hands free and also uses the phone as a music device.
The head unit was only £100 and the wiring loom I got made up by a mate of mine for £20.
Only problem is that the steering wheel controls don't work with this unit, but the sat nav still works fine, and you can operate the ipod via the head unit controls, so the ipod just stays in the center cubby box.
