Hardtop or ragtop...

As I'm contemplating replacing the disco with a series with a TDi when the disco dies, what's everyones opinion on hard vs softop. I've heard that softops are quieter and warmer in good condition, which is believable as my hardtop 88 that I used to have was noisy as fook till I drove round without a roof. What's everyone opinion on em? I'd also fancya roll cage/bar as well.

Any thoughts or experiences?

my Tdi truck cab is pretty noisy by modern car standards but i grew up around old Scammells, Bedfords and Leylands so i'm happy to use it as my daily driver...

it is a lot quieter tho during the better weather when i can take the door tops off to reduce the reflected noise, but when it's raining heavily it's like travelling in an empty biscuit tin (no headlining)
 
ragtop, then when its normal you can roll the back up, slightly warmer you can roll the sides and back up, and if its hot the whole thing off. Hardtops noisy, condensation aswell?
 
Hard tops are more practical: Better visibility especially with side windows, access to the loadbed is easier - no buckles and ropes to undoo, security is better, roofbars and roof racks can be fitted.
Soft tops are nice because they can be easily removed for warm summer days.
 
Softop for its practicality,ease of change,lack of noise and condensation.The straps at the back can be looped forward to the hoop in front to get them out of the way.Door tops off,sides and rear rolled up has to be the nicest way to travel there is.Good times.....

My brother in western OZ told me his IIa with Holden 202 motor suffered an under dash fire a couple of days ago - bodged up up and drove home after the flames died down - you need the canvas over there to keep the sun off your head.
