Hi all recently I've had trouble starting my freelander 1 td4 if and when it does start there's a lot of white smoke and the idle speed is not very constant ( like it'ssurging) when it is running it drives fine but when I stop it and it's warm it won'tstart I've had to start it in gear to get it to go, I've changed the glow plugs and fuelfilter and put some additive in the fuel totry and clean the fuel system, there is noengine management displayed and no error codes, any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated, cheersAndy

Try changing the cam sensor, if it will not start from warm, or drive it round until up to temperature, pull out side your home and leave it as though you had just gone into a shop etc, after a short while see if it starts if not remove the cam sensor stick it in your freezer for about 5 minutes refit and see if car FL starts if so you have just proved it's the cam sensor, smoke could be the glow plugs, seeing as you have changed those ?, bad starting overall could also be the regulator O-rings easy fix £5.99, also do a leak back test.

Hi Just an up date I've managed to get it going and it seems fine at the moment it's been two days never failed to start all I have do e was to clean the sensor on the injector rail with contact cleaner and it started first time and not failed since so fingers crossed that was the problem

I am glad to hear you have it sorted , if it happens again can I suggest you check the wiring the goes to the sensor they are a known prob with td4
