What is the tyre of choice?

I have always had what was originally on the Landy, Pirelli Scorpion S/T (an intermediate tyre all season type) i think speed rating R, this is a softer compound

So 2day i went and fitted (2) a hard tyre (and a bigger speed rating ((V))) the tyre is still a Pirelli scorpion, but its a snow and ice, has anyone using them, i found the grip far better in the snow 2day and its a big difference, but i wanted to know if this still holds true in the summer months (like we are going to get a summer right??) anyway your thought on tyres the best go get, and them ones we need to avoid

I've got Scorpions but today have ordered 4 General Grabber AT2s... Had them on my last 4x4 and thought they were great both on and off road...

I run the General Grabber UHP 255/55/18 tyre on my P38, can't fault them, they were allot less noisy (and a damn site cheaper) than the Goodyear Wrangler HP's that my P38 came with.

Ive had this brand/model of tyre now for almost 2 years and have driven it in summer and winter, driving in snow and ice they seem to be good and grip very well, you really have to go some to make them loose traction. In the summer they seem ok and I have done light to medium off-roading with them and they also performed well. The last thing I can definitely say about them is they are very resistant to aquaplaning - I remember not long after getting my P38 I was driving along the M40 in a heavy thunderstorm, not too fast, slow lane following the flow of traffic, and suddenly became very aware of the fact that the steering had gone light and I didn't really have much control over the vehicle direction at all. Gently eased off and let is slow and all was ok again but in standing water the Goodyears I had on were rubbish and aquaplaned at the first available oppurtunity. The General tyres don't do this.

So yea, that's my opinion :D

Nice to see you back on here Dopey

Thanks m8, good to be back for a few months i hope, just to report.....my A/c is working fine now, it was the condenser behind the dash, but its all fixed now, thanks for everyone's help on that one

Well after using these Ice and Snow tyres i have to say i am very impressed with them, they hold very well cornering (at a reasonable speed too) and stopping on ice and snow they give good grip and bite in, you can buy them from kwik-fit (ok not the place i love best) but at £109 each (for a set of 4) on line cheapest i have seen so far
