i had planned to go with someone but was let down at the last min, so i will be going out alone, is this safe done a few lanes on my own and never had any problems, i take it this is a popular place and would probably end up meet other off roaders when out and about

if anyone wants to meet i am going up sat 26 for 12 and will be camping at Tynllwyn Caravan and Camping Park so will be out on sun 27 aswell. i will put my cb on ch 9 and try and leave it on, if u want me call out for stuart 200dti

one life, live it..... is the land rover motto !!! i think id rather try it and fail than give up be for i try, even if i have to walk some of it be-for i drive it, i have a mate to jump out and spot me if it get bad,,,,,,,, lets hope for the best fellas !!!

Mate... Going out alone is for idiots...

Why don't you contact afew of the members in the area and see whether any of them are out on the same day, you'd probably be welcome to tag along. Unless you have shedloads of experience it is a very bad idea to go it alone.

Trust me I speak with some authority on the subject. ;)

But he hasn't got any mates thats the problem, he has to pay for them

how much do u charge sirus ?? do u pay per outin or 12 month fee ?? lol

iv have mates but they all drive crap like BMW's, MG, skyline, evo 2, saxo's, ok on road and getting them to work but none of them is any good to me. they all want to come but will not get a 4x4.
i have done hope Vally, stanage edge, bamford area on my own before.

cheeky ;)

I did happy valley last year on my own. no problems. It is a little hairy in places, not sure how a disco would cope though. As a minimum I would recommend 18 other vehicles, incase you get into trouble. If that doesn't work, phone Vince Cobley, he will get you out the **** :blabla:

i would rather go out and get lost and stuck on my own than join protrax off road club

I don't know about Happy Valley, but if you're the kind of person that puts their mobile phone number on a public forum without realising the consequences, then I'd suggest you don't go anywhere on you're own......not even Tescos!!!!!!

Aint Ch.9 the emergency channel?

I've just bought meself a new CB rig and its got an emergency button that hops to channel 9. Seems strange to have that if there is no emergency channel on 9. Good point though, who monitors it?

Has to be said .. this thread's in the wrong bit .. doing Happy Valley is not off-roading, it's green-laning. There's a significant difference. ;)

When they came in there were certain channels picked for certain things. As always these were advisory and relied on gentlemanly consideration.

As there's none of that on CB, they got ignored a lot.

14 - general calling channel - hence "One Four for a copy"
19 - mobile calling channel - hence "One Nine-a copy"
9 - emergency - AFASK it was never officially monitored except for Dartmoor rescue, and it was 15+ years ago that I was with them.

Nowadays people just use the channels as they want, but that is the reason for the Ch9 quick select button on many rigs.

i could have sworn 2 weeks ago that we did stanage edge together, i am sure someone i was traveling with went and took me for the breaker bar back to the van , and we would have been there with you now if it wasnt for the fact that my disco gearbox or transfer box has decided to chew itself to bits ,
