Happy new year everyone :)

Why 2?o_O

We seem to get a major new variant about every 6 months. If the numbers are big enough (and I believe they are) then I think there is enough selection for the virus to become more transmissible but less deadly. On top of that each pass trains our immune systems to respond so we're less likely to be hospitalised, especially if vaccinated. By the time we've done another 4 passes it will be flu for the vulnerable and a bad cokd for the rest of us. Of course, there is no guarantee it will become less deadly and it could easily go the other way but I believe it is less likely so assuming we get lucky we're a few years off getting back to a resemblance of normality.

That said, we built sewers to stop people getting ill from drinking their own effluent. It is high time we thought the same about the air we breathe so this could be the perfect catalyst to fix some of the ventilation issues that have been building up.
