Anyone used a Hankook battery?
Are they OK?
I was looking at what is available for my Defender and considering the options from Halfords ( with trade card) + other outlets when I spotted a 100AH battery Calcium technology with 4 years warranty at £60 + free delivery on e-bay, that seems like a bargain, but I have never used this brand, so I am cautious.
I suppose they are just like so many products which are made by suppliers and then badged, If the warranty is good seems hard to go wrong. The vehicle is not used daily and I don't anticipate a trip to the Arctic at any time so I did not want to spend £200 on a new battery, and I understand the calcium technology is good for infrequently used vehicles as it has a low internal discharge.

I bought mine from a shop. I paid over the odds. Why? Well If it packs in within 3 years the shop will still be there so I can take it back and get a replacement. The ebay supplier will be long gone.

Well possibly, what about people who thought that when they bought from, Woolworths, Jessups, MFI, etc. etc.
Really I just wondered if anyone had experience of the Hankook brand.

If the batteries are as good as their tires, you're looking at a ten year life span. Hankook is a huge global manufacturer not some flybynight concern. It will be fine I'm sure.

I'll take my chances on that. And do you think the JCB assembly plant make the **** power tools they sell? Or ford make the wooly hats? I doubt hankook make them. I stand to be corrected.

My thoughts exactly, even some well known and trusted brands buy in and badge. Also works for you if you know what you are getting, i.e. Halfords oil is supplied by Comma I looked at the product sheets on their site and it says Comma on top, I understand Comma is part of Exxon Mobil, but Then I never imagined that the Halfords staff were distilling oil in the back room.
At £60 delivered for a 100 AH calcium battery I think I will give it a go, worth a shot, if it is not up to spec call it live and learn.

Made in Korea by AtlasBX, who have been bought by Hankook. As usual, some people get a short life, but most reports are good. At that price it doesn't have to last for ever to be a good deal!

Try these guys Mate, I use them a lot for my business and they are the best online suppliers I've ever used.

As said - who knows the manuf. details on anything these days i.e who makes/made LR 'genuine parts' when the original stock of (now) obsolete parts dried up?
Car batteries are something that I never reckon to pay over the odds for because :
The extra cost for a so-called HD battery rarely equates to it's increased service life & X number of years covered by the warranty often means that you end up only getting a discount on a replacement, based on the percentage of the unused warranty period. Unless you are running something like an electric winch or a battery (no pun intended) of driving lights etc. you may as well stick to the manuf. standard spec. The last two batteries for my RRC have come from the local auto-shop at £75/80 for sealed units with a 'no-quibble' 2 year warranty - I don't know who actually makes them & don't really care, as long as they do the job.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered one, so let's see.
A12 year old battery from anywhere has to be a risk as winter kicks in, hope it holds out for you. Just wondering who makes the OEM batteries now?

Been expecting it to fail for the last 3 years...just can't bring myself to replace it while it works.
Still, not heading for the South Pole in it at the minute.

I know what you mean, mine is showing low voltage and I was just a bit worried that the South Pole might come to us in the next couple of months, so I hope it may well be £60 well spent, after all it's only like a tank of diesel.

It's one of the motoring world's greatest questions - why do all the original consumer components, ie batteries, exhausts, brake pads, bulbs etc. always last longer than any replacement items - regardless of the source or the price paid?

Strange thing that.
Have you also noticed that in a pack of disposable razors the last one lasts 3 times the length of the others?

Well bit of a delay but it arrived and I fitted it Saturday, not a moment too soon the voltage meter showed 9.1 V when turned the ignition on Sat morning, with the new battery the doors lock with a quick clunk instead of the slow grinding sound.
Time will tell if the battery is a good quality one, but its a nice feeling to have 100 AH ready and waiting and 14.6 v when the engine is running.

Still early days but I am impressed, its great to have 11.4 V on my Voltage meter and hear the starter turn over so quickly on a cold morning.
Delivery was delayed by a few days as they did not have it in stock but at least they wrote to me to explain and it showed up when they said it would.
Bit fiddly to install need to be careful the + terminal does not touch the battery retaining bracket but so far I am very happy.

if they are a large concern I am sure they would honour their guarantee if the seller went bang, may even be able to register your purchase on the hankook website
