Hi guys,
I bought my Freelander 2003 TD4 last year to tow my caravan. Everything seemed great apart from it needed two new rear tyres. The dealer agreed to put them on and i picked the car up a few days later.
After a few days i noticed the car seemed to be very unstable and moving around at the rear while i was driving, it was especially bad on the motorway at 70mph, so much that i only dared do about 50mph.
I took it back to the dealer who supposodly checked it out but said he couldnt find anything wrong with it.

I took it to my Land Rover dealer and told them what was happening, they put it on the ramps and checked the suspension and everything seemed fine, then they noticed the rear tyres.
The LR guy said the problem is your rear tyres, although they were new and NOT remoulds they were very cheap and the rubber was too soft, the tyre wall was collapsing under the weight of the car and the faster i went-the hotter they got- and the car was all over the place.

I changed them immediatly for Goodyear Wranglers and i have had no more problems since, i took the cheap ones back to the dealer(after drilling holes in them so they could not be re used) and ended up throwing them at him because he wouldnt pay anything towards the Goodyears.

I have learned a valuble lesson regarding tyres, one of the most important parts of any vehicle, and in the future will put on the very best i can afford........ after all, it nearly killed me !!!:p

Good post chap well worth shareing... cheap tyres aint always cheerfull tyres then...keep an eye on yer new rear tyres though, if they wear quick of if the tread blocks look like theyre being pulled upwards on the leading edges your vcu could be siezed...goodluck chap and good post...:)
