Hi all. I popped out to the chinese tonight to get a romantic meal :lvheart-119:. As I pulled up in the car park I put the handbrake on, and it started to roll back . I then released it and put it back on (3 clicks), and it continued to rollback. So I left it in gear and off I went. Got back in the car, put my foot on the clutch and it didn't roll back. But I was able to pull away (quite freely) with the handbrake on. It sort of holds (ish) but will allow me to move off with very little friction. I have read somewhere that it could be oil leaking - which was a slight problem when I had a new cable fitted only about 3 weeks ago, there was a bit of oil on the inside of the drum. Is this likely to be the problem? If so, what seal needs replacing?

Cheers

After some more research I have discovered that it will be a leaking transfer box which has contaminated the brake shoes which ties up as I do have a leak and was made aware that the transfer box had a leak. Is it an easy fix to change the seals?

Cheers

This is the handbrake cable I have

Am I right by saying this is off a 300tdi box? thus meaning I need 300tdi seals?

First job I had to tackle on the 300TDi and not too bad at that.

Followed the thread in Buster's section - it's for a Defender but it's exactly the same - bearing in mind that the narrow bit that you can't get the seal past is a dust cover that comes off with a bit of levering/tapping  That aside, it's easy though the shoe retention springs can be a bit obstructive.

Chock wheels, shoes off, tfr box in Low, difflock in, main box in 1st then crack off the big nut with a bar and undo.

You'll probably need new shoes if they're oily.
Rod-operated (early) brake is slightly different, according to Haynes, but shouldn't be any trickier.

Give the parts supplier your chassis number to make sure you get the right seal, or post the transfer box serial no. on here and someone will (hopefully) advise.

The serial number is stamped either on the left rear lower side or on the rear face under the PTO cover.
