The button on the handbrake handle is stuck in. I took a look at the hand brake mechanism and there nothing obvious wrong with it, the rod doesn't appear bent, well the small portion I can see looks okay. I can push on the pawl and the button pops out like it normally does but when I push on the button again it sticks. A bit of spray lubricant down around the knob didn't help at all.

How does the engaging mechanism come apart? Does the button come out to show a spring or thing?

Chock the wheels and remove the whole unit for stripping down, there are a couple of pressed pins that go though the body of the lever and hold it all together, drive these out and it all falls apart, remember which way round it goes and meticulously clean it all and measure up clearances for components and see how much wear there is on them too. Grease them all up before fitting them all back together.

I just done mine for the same thing & the rod was bent, hence why mine stuck in.
I had to grind down the pin to get the rod out as they don't press out & replace with
cotter pin with c clip or split pin depending what type you get. ;)
